Then James drove me to Hazor, a huge archeological site inhabited by numerous groups over many hundreds of years. The tel of Hazor is the largest in Israel comprising 200 acres.
Here is part of the site which is not yet excavated.
At its height when the Canaanites were in charge, the city encompassed the entire tell. Later when it had been conquered by the Israelites, the fortified city included only the Upper City. There were other inhabitants as well so the story of Hazor encompasses many generations and dominant groups.
In the times of Joshua, it was known as “the head of all those kingdoms.”
