Argentina Exchange Shabbat -- Here is what we at Temple Beth Shalom of the West Valley in Phoenix Arizona sent to Templo Libertad in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Our Temple is a member of the Union for Reform Judaism, which is the association of Reform temples for the United States. In turn the URJ is a member of the World Union for Progressive Judaism, which is the overall umbrella organization for Progressive Judaism around the world. The WUPJ is having their annual conference and as part of that is organizing a pulpit exchange.
Rabbi Kaplan signed up and was paired with Rabbi Hernán Darío Rustein of Templo Libertad - Fundación Judaica in Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires. Rabbi Rustein suggested that each Temple prepare a short clip combining each Rabbi speaking briefly with one or two Shabbat songs. We are exchanging these clips and including them in part of our Friday night service this week. We'll play what they sent to us from Argentina specifically prepared in English and will also play what we prepared for them in Spanish!
