Visiting Dolphin Cove was a terrific experience. There's now increasing amounts of attention being paid to whether dolphins and other sea animals are meant to live in captivity in this sort of environment, and I don't know what the answer to that is, but it was a great experience. As you can see, the dolphin was quite a good swimmer and he had me hold on to him and pulled me at a very rapid rate.
The trainer then gave him a little fish, which he seemed to enjoy tremendously. They had the dolphins do several different maneuvers with us and each one was quite different and very exciting. They gave a choice between swimming with the dolphins or swimming with the sharks, but the sharks are a very eccentric type of shark which are not only completely harmless but not terribly intelligent. So I think it's best to stick with the dolphins.
I did scuba diving with real sharks, which I'll report on at a later point. They also have stingrays, which are included in all of the admission packages. You can go in the water and pet them and experience them up close. Their skin is kind of slimy, so you may not find direct contact particularly pleasant, but its fascinating to see them and to actually be able to come this close to them. I've come within six or seven feet of them scuba diving, but in the ocean they're a little skittish and don't come too close to you. Swimming with dolphins is a once-in-a-lifetime activity that everyone needs to do.
