Our first stop was in Sderot. It's a city with about 32,000 people. Here is a typical street.
First we went to see the Lookout at the entrance to the city where you could see all of northern Gaza.
We climbed a small hill to see the view.
Here is the place where the police station stood. They plan to make a memorial here.
There was really no defense of the city so the terrorists just drove in. They went straight for the police station which was very heavily fortified with reinforced concrete. There were only a few police there so they were able to take over the station very easily.
There was a big battle eventually to take it back. A Police special forces officer took a rifle from a soldier and went up to the apartment building opposite the police station and was able to kill the sniper on the roof. This is what allowed the Israeli police to retake the police station but they had to blow a lot of it up.
Then there's a photo of the place where the police station stood. The rune of the building was removed and they're planning a memorial there.
